An attempted robbery in a McDonald’s drive-thru was thwarted by a father with a CCW who fatally shot the attacker. His 4-year-old son was in the backseat when the attack occurred.

According to the report on Texas station KTRK,  The driver of the vehicle was licensed to carry and used his firearm to protect himself and his son from the armed attacker.

“He was trying to get his son, protect his son and I think he obviously saw his chance then to defend himself because he was afraid he was going to get shot,” the victim’s attorney Robert Pelton said to KTRK.

“He’s thankful he’s alive and that his son’s alive,” Pelton said.

The article stated that the attempted robbery reportedly occurred on May 7 at about 2 p.m. in League City, Texas. According to police, the robber approached the man’s pickup truck in the drive-thru lane and pointed the gun at him.

The two men struggled but the driver of the truck shot the would-be robber three times. The robbery suspect died at the hospital. He has not yet been identified.

“Never would have dreamed in a million years that a McDonald’s drive thru, like blocks from the police station in broad daylight, 2 or 3 o’clock in the afternoon, something like this would happen,” Pelton said to KTRK.

The father had a license to carry a handgun. The police believe the incident was a case of self-defense.

“I think he would want other citizens to know they have a right to protect themselves,” Pelton said regarding his client. “You have to be cautious all the time, wherever you are.”

This incident serves as yet another reminder of how important it is to be prepared for the unexpected. Thankfully, this man had a CCW and was prepared to use it to save his life and the life of his child.

Even at places where you think you can let your guard down, you must remain aware of your surroundings.
