New research is out that finally puts to rest any argument left against concealed carry. Arming yourself with a gun for self-defense is now the best, and most common, way to stay safe.

These three statistics just released by the Crime Prevention Research Center offer compelling proof that now is the best time to join the concealed carry community.

1.  A total of 1.7 million new concealed carry permits have been issued over the past year, which is a 15.4% increase from past years.

The number of people getting their carry permits has never increased as much in a single year. Even though rules differ from state to state, concealed carry is quickly becoming an accepted practice across the country.

Streets, workplaces, and homes are now safer than ever.

2. An increasing number of women are getting their concealed carry permits.

Permits for women have increased a whopping 270% since 2007. The cost for permits in  most states has lowered recently and the process is less complex, so now it’s more likely that more than one person in a household will be carrying.

Women are no longer being thought of as easy victims. More and more, they’re not only armed, they’re effective and accurate.

3. Starting in 2007, murder rates have decreased from 5.6 (per 100,000 people) to 4.2 in 2014.

When you compare that to the fact that concealed carry permits increased by 178% in that time, the conclusion is obvious. Violent crime and murder has been decreasing because more and more adults are carrying concealed in a responsible way.

The community of those who exercise their right to carry concealed grows more every day. As the numbers grow, though, it’s important that we keep safety and responsible carry the top priority. There has never been a better time to stay informed and well-trained.
