Chicago Carjackers Pick the Wrong Victim

In mid-May, in southwest Chicago, two men approached a man standing outside his vehicle in broad daylight at 11:30 am.They demanded his keys, but the unidentified man did not want to willingly hand them over. One of the men was armed.

The car owner happened to be a concealed carry permit holder, and instead of pulling out his keys, he pulled out his concealed handgun. He shot one of the men in the groin. Ouch! The other man ran, but police caught up with him before much time had gone by.

The man who was shot in the groin was 25 years old. His future ability to become a dad may have been affected, we’re not sure! The news reports did not give that level of detail. But either way, their victim having a concealed weapon, pulling it out, and using it is not what robbers like this plan for or count on.

According to statistics, 429 Chicago residents have concealed carry permits. The more the better in my mind. If enough robbers like this got what was coming to them–and I don’t necessarily think you should start shooting every time you pull out your gun–there might be less crime. Or at least they might give a good second thought to committing a crime in the first place.
