Back in February we posted that Alabama doesn’t want to wait for national reciprocity legislation to pass. On Tuesday, April 17, the Alabama Senate voted to approve legislation that would eliminate the requirement for a permit in order to carry a concealed weapon. The bill, Senate Bill 24, passed by a wide margin of 26 to 8. All 9 Democrats in the Senate voted against it.

The bill now moves to the Alabama House of Representatives.

Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Tuscaloosa said people should not have to buy a pistol permit to exercise their Second Amendment rights.

“It’s unthinkable that you have to pay a fee for a constitutional right. That’s really the heart of the whole issue,” Allen said. We’ll keep you posted as this bill progresses.
