The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on March 28 that Senators in Georgia had passed a law allowing guns onto the campus of Georgia’s public colleges and universities.

House Bill 280 amends the Official Code of Georgia to authorize the carrying and possession of handguns by licensed handgun permit holders in public institutions of education. The law does not allow guns in child care centers on campus, or parts of the campuses where high school students attend class.

In Georgia, legislators have considered similar bills for the past five years in a row. Last year, Governor Nathan Deal vetoed a similar bill. Now this bill must also cross his desk. The bill has already passed the House and then went back to the House for review. As of March 30, it passed the House by 96-70, and as of March 31 passed the Senate with 33 yes votes to 21 no votes.
