The Responsibility of Concealed Carry

Getting your permit to carry concealed is just the first step in what will likely be a life-long journey of self-respect, exercising your Constitutional right to carry and protecting those you love. The downside is that as a gun owner you immediately become part of a maligned group. By choosing to own a gun and carry it under your clothing, you’re opening yourself up to ridicule or insults from people who aren’t interested and don’t understand what you’ve signed up for.

Good for you. Know that there’s a whole lot of folks all over the United States and the world who will support your right to carry and who know what a burden you’ve taken on for yourself by choosing to carry. So, here’s what getting a concealed carry permit really means.

1. Responsible gun owners train not just to shoot but to know what to do in a life-or-death situation.

2. Don’t learn just how to fire and clean your gun, but learn how to avoid conflict or de-escalate conflict, so you may never have to use it.

3. You’re not learning how to kill people, but how to avoid killing people. You will avoid conflicts wherever possible, and leave the area if you are being provoked rather than stay and pull out your weapon when you really didn’t need to.

4. You will never point your gun at anything you don’t intend to shoot. You won’t let your gun make you reckless. Ever.

5. You’ve signed on for the responsibility of keeping you and your loved ones safe. That responsibility extends to the people around you at all times that you have your weapon on you.

6. Concealed means concealed. You’re not a show-off, or printing when you reach in to the cold case to get a gallon of milk. Keep the gun truly concealed.

7. You will familiarize yourself with every letter of every law related to your concealed carry permit. It is your responsibility to know what you can and can’t do and what law enforcement expectations are where you live. Every state is different.

Still interested? Good. Start training.
