Six staff members of Wilson Public Schools in Ardmore Oklahoma are taking their training classes for their concealed carry permits. While debate about arming school staff keeps dragging on, this school district has decided to make student safety a top priority.

Watch the video below to see the interview from the school’s controversial superintendent, Eric Smith.

Starting this November, these teachers will carry in school, armed and trained to defend their students and staff.  The school district paid for six staff members to take the 120-hour class.

Oklahoma lawmakers recently approved a bill that lets schools decide whether or not they want to arm their teachers and school administrators.

The teachers, who will be responsible for buying their own firearms and ammunition, will be carrying in classrooms and hallways of the districts school buildings.

This highlights the importance of regular training and certification classes. These teachers have taken on the responsibility of protecting many young lives, so the need to safe carry practices and certified training is incredibly high.

While carrying in a school has plenty of responsibility that comes along with it, it’s not much different from carrying concealed in public places. Being armed for self-defense means that you must know how to react safely and accurately in stressful and violent scenarios.
