Last February, a handgun was found in the Woodstock post office. Yes, this original story happened several months ago but the follow up details are just being released. Initial reports said a customer at the U.S. Post Office in Woodstock found a loaded 9mm on the floor. The chamber didn’t have a bullet in it but the gun did have a loaded magazine.

Now we get the man’s side of the story, which is that he had the gun in a zippered pocket of his jacket and it fell out without him noticing. Turns out, that man was a judge.

The owner was Thomas Meyer, a McHenry County Circuit Court judge. Meyer had a valid FOID card and an Illinois concealed carry permit. Federal law prohibits carrying guns in post offices, regardless of whether the gun owner has a concealed carry permit or not. In this case, the post office didn’t have the “no guns allowed” sticker on the door at the time so Meyer wasn’t charged.

How does that set with you? Do you believe that he had a gun in a zippered pocket and it fell out without him noticing?
