Concealed carry permit holders face a dilemma when they want to exercise. They don’t want to be without their CCW, but carrying concealed while working up a sweat can be a big hassle.

Our usual CCW may be too bulky and heavy to carry comfortably when running and our favorite holster may not be secure enough to keep the CCW from jostling around as we move. There are holster options available to help you carry your CCW comfortably and securely.

Fanny Pack

Although not the most fashionable option, there are several fanny pack holsters on the market that allow gun owners to carry concealed during exercise.

Drawing a weapon from a fanny pack holster takes practice, and it will require use of both hands. Although this is a drawback, it is better to have your CCW on your person in case you need it.

Belly Band Holster

A belly band holster is basically a large elastic band with pockets that is secured around your hips with Velcro. The holsters are adjustable and can be secured so that your CCW doesn’t bounce as you run.

Many runners find belly bands to be a comfortable way to carry concealed while they get their daily workout. Belly bands are versatile and can securely hold different types and sizes of firearms.

One of the bigger complaints about the belly band is that it is designed to be used right up against the skin, so it will become wet with sweat during a workout. You’ll have to take care to clean your firearm to prevent rust if you use a belly band holster.

Don’t Leave Home Without It
It’s important to carry concealed no matter where you are or what you’re doing. When you’re out exercising you could be particularly vulnerable. Especially if you’re focused on a workout, very tired, and wearing headphones.

Remember to use good situational awareness and be aware of who and what is in your immediate surroundings.
