Is online handgun safety training controversial?

We sometimes receive emails that accuse us of enabling criminals to obtain guns, or that our training is not effective and does not meet state requirements. Our training does in fact meet state laws for all states in which we operate. Let’s take a closer look at these issues, why we think they’re unfounded, and why video training is a great option for the public and should be embraced.

Most states across the country do not require individuals to pass a gun safety training class to purchase or own a firearm. Anyone who is of legal age and able to pass a background check for in-store sales may do so without ever handling a firearm. Our online training video was made available for free to anyone so individuals with no experience can easily obtain information that will help them handle their firearms safely and appropriately. Even if a convicted felon watched our training, he or she would not be able to purchase a firearm in-store or receive a concealed carry permit, as the required background checks would prevent this. Online gun safety training or concealed permits simply do not provide access of firearms to criminals.

Some people think our training is not sufficient for individuals obtaining their concealed carry permit, and there is no way to verify if the student can handle a gun properly in a life threatening situation. The states we provide online training for do not require a gun range qualification for concealed carry; the training that is required is safety training. Just like the vehicle safety training video you watched in driver’s education that provided the basic information you needed to pass the written test, that is what we provide – Basic Pistol Safety Training. This does not replace weapons familiarization training or marksmanship training. The only way to become a better shooter is to spend quality time and thousands of rounds at a shooting range which we advocate; everyone should be prepared and practice as much as they can.

We always say: Practice, practice, practice. Our online training course has never been intended to replace quality time on a firing range. Sending rounds down range on a regular basis is the only way to become more accurate with your shot, which no safety course can teach, in-person, or online.

Passing critical information through an online platform has already happened, and will become more commonplace in the future. You can now get a college degree online and doctors perform surgery over the internet. Whether we have an instructor stand at the front of the room to provide the information or that presentation was previously recorded is irrelevant. The video presentation allows us to make sure the training is consistent and concise and that nothing was missed. We have exceptional customer service and we invite anyone and everyone to call and ask questions.

Online training is convenient and thorough. Our free online program provides access to safety training 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Anyone who wants to exercise their 2nd amendment right can and should. Many states do not require any training or education to purchase, own or carry; open carry or concealed carry. We believe safety education is a priority and we hope to get it out to as many people as possible. Online training does just that; and it’s out there for the world to see and critique. If you think something could be added to our training to make it better or easier to understand please help everyone in the gun community and let us know. If you think others could benefit from our certification or free safety training please tell them about us. Thank you!
