Rocker Thinks Loaded Gun is Allowed on Plane

So, maybe we can blame the rock n roll lifestyle for Rick Derringer’s dumbness? I’m not sure, but in February earlier in the month the rocker carried a loaded gun in his carry on bag onto a Delta Air Lines flight from Cancun, Mexico.

Derringer is known for his 1960s hit “Hang On Sloopy” and the 1974  hit song “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo.” Apparently he’s not known for his common sense I’d have to say.

“Derringer explained that he was aware that his pistol was in his carry-on bag but he thought that it was acceptable to carry a pistol on an airplane,” according to the criminal complaint filed this week in U.S. District Court in Atlanta.

Since when is it OK to take a loaded gun on a plane? He said he thought it was ok since he’s licensed to have the gun. Um, no. That’s not how it works. Plus, there are signs all over every airport I’ve ever been to that guns are not allowed, neither are anything else flammable or explosive.

He apparently told officials that he flies 30 to 50 times per year with a gun in his carry on bag and according to the reports “has never had a problem.” He claims he was able to pass through security with the gun on his way to Mexico from Florida.

I just flew a few days ago and had some powder in my bag that TSA thought was suspicious, so they pulled me out of the line. (It was human ashes, and when I told them that, they didn’t open the container, thank goodness.) Also, as I entered security for the previous flight I took to SHOT Show, the TSA agent swiped my box of business cards. If THAT’s suspicious but having a loaded gun isn’t, then what the heck is going on here?

I guess this is rock n roll, baby.
