Nothing improves your basic skills like a little healthy competition. Even as children, we start playing games that teach us basic things like numbers and colors.

Don’t dismiss range games as child’s play. Here are three ways to bring fun back to the range and accuracy to your shooting.

Training with non-traditional paper targets is a simple strategy for improving your speed and accuracy. These targets revitalize firing range practice by keeping things relaxed and friendly.

There are some great targets out there that go beyond the traditional bulls eye or bad guy. Using a new type of target trains your brain and eyes to focus in new ways.

Shooting Some Darts
A dartboard target takes the set-up that we all recognize and brings accuracy and strategy of the game to the firing range. Play traditional games like 501 or Cricket with a friend to keep up some friendly competition.

Sink the Ship
Battleship also makes a great alternative paper target. The childhood game transfers well to a shooting target match. Fire at your opponent’s boats and the most accurate wins.

Fire a Three of a Kind
Play poker with a cheap deck of cards. You don’t need to wait for poker night at your buddy’s place to get the thrill of a full house.

Deal out a hand for each player and place the cards on a backstop downrange. Five shots later, the best hand wins.

Friendly competition is the best way to encourage regular training. When you’re able to take the pressure off and make improvement fun you’ll notice your skills increasing.
