In an example of “small is mighty,” a report coming out of Desoto, Texas, tells us that a man with a concealed carry permit fired several shots outside a Waffle House, a popular restaurant chain.

The man and his wife were in the restaurant when a would-be robber made his way in with an AK-47. The man’s wife was on her way to the restaurant, and the man was not willing to watch her or anyone else get hurt, apparently, so that prompted him to pull out his own gun to stop things. The man with the AK-47, identified as 26-year-old Antione Devon Cooper of Dallas, who walked into the restaurant with the gun and robbed several customers. He then left on foot, and the man with the concealed carry permit followed him.

The man with the concealed carry permit called out to the other man, who turned to face him with the AK-47 in a ready-to-fire position. The customer shot the man multiple times in the Waffle House parking lot. The customer was not arrested, although he is now facing a grand jury to determine if he should face charges.

We don’t have all of the facts in this case, but having a concealed carry permit does not give you the right to pursue someone who is fleeing and put yourself into dangerous situations. See this post about “What You Must Know About the Use of Deadly Force.”

This incident reportedly happened July 7. It is interesting to us that it takes so long for incidents of people with concealed carry who stop other armed attackers to filter through the media to become public knowledge.
