People who live in Arkansas might be able to keep their arms with them as they watch sporting events. Or they might not.
In late March, Arkansas Republican governor Asa Hutchinson approved a measure that would allow concealed handguns to be carried into sporting events at stadiums. However, the Arkansas Senate has dealt a blow to the measure by saying that college sports events are exempt from the law.
While the governor initially approved it, the Senate voted to add an exemption to not allow the rule to apply to college sports events. Now, the Arkansas House must consider the legislation. The law that Hutchinson approved, House Bill 1249 ,requires eight hours of active-shooter training for a person with a concealed handgun license who is 21 years of age or older in order to be able to carry a handgun on state college campuses or into bars or government buildings. the law takes effect September 15, 2017, but the training guidelines don’t have to be developed into January 2018.
