An armed robbery in Chicago was thwarted by a man carrying concealed. The masked man entered the store and demanded money.
Another employee emerged from the back of the store. That’s when he pulled out a gun and pointed it at one of the employees.
The armed customer saw the threat and responded by drawing his concealed firearm. His shots took out the 55-year old armed robber, killing him on the scene.
The shooting is being reviewed as a self-defense incident, and the legal results are still being determined.
Armed robberies that are ended by legally armed citizens with a concealed carry permit don’t often receive popular news coverage, but small businesses frequently see armed customers defending themselves with firearms.
The shooting incident is just one of a handful of gun-related incidents to take place in the Chicago area over the weekend. This one demonstrates that armed citizens can protect themselves when a threat comes to them.
When a thief decides to carry a mask and a gun into a store and threaten employees and customers, they assume the risk that someone may be carrying. Concealed carry is a popular practice in many areas, and citizens are trained to protect themselves and others.
In this case, the customer carrying concealed apparently felt that the thief pointing a gun at employees represented a threat to their lives.
It’s important to note that carrying inside small businesses means that a robbery may occur. It is the responsibility of the gun owner to remain trained in effective drawing and firing.
Concealed carry doesn’t mean that the person is able to interpret law or make arrests. Every situation is different, and the use of deadly force must only be used when an unavoidable threat to your life or the life of others is presented.
