Concealed Carry Permits Won’t Cost More In California

California Governor Jerry Brown, who often takes a stance on tightening gun restrictions, vetoed legislation recently that would have allowed a price increase on a concealed carry permit.

On the same day that Gov. Brown signed other gun-related bills, including two requiring owners to lock their handguns in the trunk or a locked container if they leave them unattended in their car, this one went passed his desk with a no vote. California sets a limit on charging more than $100 for a permit. Assembly Bill 450 would have removed that limit, allowing agencies that handle permitting to raise the cost to cover other cost increases.

“This bill was spurred by a local dispute in one county,” Brown wrote in his veto message. “I am unaware of a larger problem that merits a statewide change at this time.”
