The news media makes many reports about cases involving guns. Many of them are about tragedies involving a shooter but much less often is the story about someone stopping a shooter with their own gun. One recent case happened just that way, and was widely ignored by the media in general.
Late Saturday night in South Carolina, a drunken man pulled out a firearm at a nightclub and began shooting. The 32-year-old shooter was said to have gotten into an argument with another man, pulled out a gun and began shooting. His actions injured three victims. A fourth person who was almost struck pulled out his own gun and fired back at the shooter, striking him in the leg, according to a statement from police officer Lt. Kevin Bobo.
“His rounds struck 3 victims, and almost struck a fourth victim, who in self-defense, pulled his own weapon and fired,” striking the shooter in the leg,” said Lt. Kevin Bobo. The lieutenant added that the unnamed hero has a valid concealed weapons permit, cooperated with investigators, and will not be facing any charges for shooting Thompson.
In 2014, South Carolina passed a law legalizing concealed carry weapons in bars and restaurants. It’s fair to say that this law prevented more injuries and may have saved some lives in this case.
