A Florida federal judge who is concerned that gun owners may be unaware of a dangerous safety defect in certain Taurus guns has ordered the company to raise awareness about a $240 million class action settlement. Hundreds of thousands of gun owners may be affected by the alleged safety defect.

If you own one of the following pistols, including the “PRO” series of any of these models, you may be entitled to a cash payment and other benefits from the Taurus gun settlement:

  • PT-111 Millennium
  • PT-132 Millennium
  • PT-138 Millennium
  • PT-140 Millennium
  • PT-145 Millennium
  • PT-745 Millennium
  • PT-609
  • PT-640
  • PT-24/7

NOTE: The class action settlement does not include Taurus G2 model pistols.

The settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit that alleges certain Taurus pistols have a safety defect that causes the pistol to unintentionally fire when the safety is in the “on” or “safe” position. This unintentional firing may occur when the trigger is pulled, or when the firearm is bumped or dropped.

Taurus has denied all allegations of wrongdoing and stands by its firearms.

Under the terms of the Taurus gun settlement, eligible Class Members can elect to return their pistols to Taurus and receive a payment of up to $200 per pistol. In addition, Taurus has agreed to modify its warranty policy to allow owners of any of the listed pistols to submit a warranty claim at any time. For the pistols covered by the warranty, Taurus will inspect, repair and/or replace the pistol at no cost.

Taurus has also created a special safety training series to educate gun owners about the proper operation and handling of the pistols with the alleged safety defect.

If you own one of the affected pistols and would like to ask for a settlement payment, you may register at the settlement website to get information about when you can submit a Claim Form.
